Explain Everything & Spark Page

The idea of the spark page was to portray our personal view
on digital literacy, and how it relates to our content area. The explain
everything was a presentation about our curriculum philosophy. We first took a
survey which revealed the philosophy we best express, then we had to make a
video about the philosophy itself, and one way we could integrate it into our
teaching.
Performance Criterion 4.2: Candidates
accurately address common misconceptions of the discipline.
Performance
Criterion 5.2: Candidates integrate cross-disciplinary skills (such as
critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving) to help
learners demonstrate their learning in unique ways.
These two performance criterions are demonstrated in the two
presentations, the first one related to the misconception of literacy. Before
this assignment, I thought literacy was reading and writing, but now I know it
is so much more than that. Being literate in one content area does not
necessarily mean you are literate in all of them. The second one relates to
both of presentations because to complete the two assignments we had to use a
variety of skills. For the presentations to be visually appealing we had to be
creative with the layout of the presentations. Along with needing to be
creative we were using new technology and there was a lot of problem solving
happening when a feature wouldn’t work right. I think these two assignments
related to each other because while introducing new ways to use technology to
implement into our teaching, I was also using the some of the same language in
the presentations.
For so long I thought literacy was about reading and
writing, and now I know more about how it is the ability to understand and can
explain what is being taught. I want to learn more about how to integrate
digital literacy into English classrooms because that is where most of the
content is reading and writing.
